The Flaming Lips & Tame Impala @ Agganis Arena

On September 30, 2013 Tame Impala and the Flaming lips traveled to Boston, Massachusetts to blow the minds of us New England-ers.

With much anticipation, doubt, and luck I got into the Agganis Arena. It was still early, so I grabbed a place in general admission in the second row.

The entire crowd had arrived after The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger opened with an incredible set. Thankfully, the Impalas didn't make us wait long.

Kevin Parker announced that it was the first time they had played in a very long time, due to the fact that it was the first show of the tour. As soon as they began, the crowd could feel their energy. They were clearly very happy to be performing. It was my third time seeing them, and it was the best I've seen them play.

Now, The Flaming Lips took at least two hours to set up their alien planet scene (it was worth the wait). There were some insane lights intertwined with their equipment that looked like large, colorful spaghetti. Wayne Coyne had this big platform set up with giant silver balls at the front of the stage so he was well above the rest of the band and the crowd had to look almost at the ceiling to view his majesty. He came onstage holding a baby doll who he sang the three opening songs to.

It was weird. It was emotional. It was one of the best shows I've seen in a very long time.
